Hair Removal at Home
Silk’n™ is a light-based device for long-term hair removal designed for home-use. It is specifically intended for removal of unwanted body hair by using a selective photothermal treatment. Ideal body areas for Silk'n use include the underarms, bikini line, arms and legs. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Silk’n™ for home-based removal of unwanted hair under the direction of a physician.
Long Term Hair Removal the Silk’n™ Way
Silk’n™, powered by the innovative and proprietary Home Pulsed Light™ technology (HPL™), is clinically tested and physician approved for safe, quick, and effective removal of hair by patients at home.
Light-based hair removal is based on the theory of selective photothermolysis in which optical energy is used to disable hair growth. In order to achieve such thermal effect, the hair shaft needs to selectively absorb light energy and transform it into heat. Melanin is the pigment in the hair shaft that is responsible for the absorption of the light, which generates the heat that eventually disables hair growth. Therefore, the more melanin present in the hair (i.e. the darker the hair) the more light that can be absorbed and the more effective light can be at removing hair.
Every hair in our body goes through the three phases of the hair growth cycle - Growth Phase and 2 Resting Phases. These phases have an important impact on how the process of light-based hair removal works.The time it takes to complete a full hair growth cycle varies from person to person and the location of the hair on the body, but is typically 18-24 months. At any given moment, the majority of the hair follicles in any skin area are in the resting phases. These resting hairs cannot be affected by Silk’n™. Hairs in the growing phase, however, will respond to Silk’n™ applications. It is important to understand that it may take a full hair growth cycle to realize complete hair removal results with Silk’n™.

What to Expect when Treating With Silk’n™
During a Silk’n™ session, it is normal to experience the following:
- a flash of light - will not harm the eyes; special eye-protection is not required
- a fan noise - cooling fan will sound similar to a hairdryer
- a "popping" sound with each pulse - simultaneous with flash of light
- moderate pressure of the applicator - to ensure proper placement of adjacent pulses
- sensation of warmth and tingling - may last up to one hour after each session
- mild red or pink coloration of skin - if blistering or burning occurs, stop session immediately
Possible side effects after using Silk’n™ :
- minor skin discomfort (i.e. tingling/stinging)
- skin redness and/or swelling
- increased sensitivity of the skin
- skin wounds and burns
- scarring
- pigment changes
- bruising
- infection

Saftety with Silk’n™
With Silk’n™, saftety comes first. The Home Pulsed Light™ technology (HPL™) is able to achieve long-term hair removal results at a fraction of the energy level used in other light-based hair removal equipment. The low energy used in Silk’n™ reduces its potential to cause harm or complications, and contributes to your overall safety.
The Silk’n™ applicator has a built-in safety feature for eye protection. It has been designed so that a light pulse cannot be emitted when the applicator is facing open air. The safety switch is activated only when the applicator tip is in full contact with the tissue and pressed. Silk’n™ also protects your skin by avoiding direct contact between the optical lens, through which pulses of light are delivered, and the skin. A disposable lamp cartridge houses the optical lens to prevent such direct contact.
The efficacy and safety of Silk’n™ has been tested in multi-center clinical study at clinics in the United States and other global locations. An average hair reduction of 60% was monitored after three months and the users of Silk’n™ recorded an extremely high level of satisfaction with the device and their results.
Silk’n™ is not designed for everyone. DO NOT USE Silk’n™ on the following:
- naturally dark skin complexion
- tanned skin or after recent sun exposure
- face and neck areas
- light, thin hair (i.e. white, grey, blond, red)
- pregnant or breast feeding women
- tattooed areas
- areas with lesions (i.e. warts, moles, cysts, cold sores)
- individuals with photosensitive diseases or are taking photosensitive medications (i.e. Accutane)
