Rhinoplasty
Nose Surgery
No doubt the nose is one of the face's most prominent feature and the one a good number of men and women would most like to change. If you are unhappy with your nose, you can transform it with nasal surgery called Rhinoplasty.
What features of the nose can be changed?
As a rule, patients are interested in changing the profile, the width, the tip or the nostrils' shape. All of these can be addressed with Rhinoplasty. In addition to taking out undesirable bumps, Dr. Lockwood can make the nose more diminutive or larger, more narrow, shorter or longer or more symmetrical to your face. The goal is to give you a natural-looking nose that is well suited for your face and more aesthetically pleasing.
How is the Rhinoplasty procedure performed?
Most commonly the surgery is performed through tiny incisions made just inside the nostrils. At other times it may be necessary to make another incision across the strip of skin between the nostrils. Regardless of the method, incisions will be virtually invisible after healing. Operating through these incisions, Dr. Lockwood can reshape and redefine the nose by sculpturing the bones and cartilage - perhaps reducing some areas while building up other with your own cartilage and bones or other materials. A personal consultation with Dr. Lockwood will help determine which techniques might be best for you, depending on your natural structure and desired result.
What will I look and feel like afterward?
Because every individual patient varies in degree of bruising and healing, there is no exact answer. However, we can offer a general outline of expectations:
For the fist few days there will be some swelling and bruising around the eye area. You may have a stuffy feeling and experience mild bleeding. All activity should be restricted; resting with the head elevated is absolutely necessary to minimize the swelling. Dr. Lockwood will prescribe for you medication to control any discomfort.
Within the first week, you may resume very light activity, bandages and gauze packing will be removed, and you may use cosmetics to cover any discoloration.
After 4-6 Weeks you may resume nearly all of your normal activities and light exercise. You will experience a significant reduction of swelling and the final results will begin to take shape over the next few months.
What kind of follow up care will I need?
You will return to Dr. Lockwood's office for a postoperative visit within the first 3-10 days and then periodically to monitor your progress over the next few months.
What kind of risks are involved?
Nasal surgery or Rhinoplasty is a safe procedure that is performed on thousands of men and women each year with no major complications. As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks. Dr. Lockwood can detail these for you in a personal consultation.
